Trap your foes with Valorant’s next defensive agent: Vyse

Riot Games has unveiled Vyse, the latest agent for its tactical 5v5 shooter Valorant. This defensive Sentinel hero uses liquid metal to isolate, trap and disarm aggressive players that dive in recklessly.

“For Vyse, we wanted to create a Sentinel that had a solution to space taking duelists in a way that wasn’t primarily stall-oriented,” said Kevin Meier, Valorant game designer at Riot Games. “During development, we often thought of Vyse setups like a Spider Web — allowing players to enter the web, but delivering a killing blow when stuck.”

While Vyse doesn’t have the information gathering tools of other Sentinel agents, she makes up for it with the flexibility of her trap setups and ability to lock down a space against multiple enemies.

She also has a flash bang to blind enemies — the first true flash for agents in her role. This keeps her more defensive tool kit relevant when players are on the attack, which encourages players to experiment with team composition in return.

Vyse made her official debut during the upper bracket finals of its 2024 world championship tournament: Valorant Champions Seoul. Riot teased her reveal ahead of the broadcast.

Vyse is the first agent released since Clove, who debuted in March 2024. Notably, Vyse is the first Sentinel agent released since Chamber, who joined Valorant’s roster in November 2021.

Vyse releases on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 28, 2024 as part of Valorant Episode 9 Act II. This is the first agent to launch since Valorant launched its console editions earlier this month.

Vyse’s abilities

Vyse lets Valorant players separate enemy agents, prevents them from escaping with slows and blinds them to prevent them from retaliating. Players will need to carefully coordinate their setups with team mates.

Arc Rose

EQUIP an Arc Rose. Target a surface and FIRE to place a stealthed Arc Rose, or ALT Fire to place the Arc Rose through it. REUSE to blind all players looking at it. This ability can be picked up to be REDEPLOYED.

Shear

EQUIP filaments of liquid metal. FIRE to place a hidden wall trap. When an enemy crosses, an indestructible wall bursts from the ground behind them. The wall lasts for a brief time before dissipating.

Razorvine

EQUIP a nest of liquid metal. FIRE to launch. Upon landing, the nest becomes invisible. When ACTIVATED, it sprawls out into a large razorvine nest which slows and damages all players who move through it.

(ULT) Steel Garden

EQUIP a bramble of liquid metal. FIRE to send the metal erupting from you as a torrent of metal thorns, JAMMING enemy primary weapons after a brief windup.
