Starbucks Coffee Chain Hit By Ransomware Attack




A ransomware attack on one of Starbucks’ (SBUX) software vendors has disrupted the coffee chain’s U.S. operations.

Employees at Starbucks in America are reportedly not able to manage their work schedules due to the ransomware attack.

Starbucks said in a news release that it is working with the software vendor to resolve the issue. Management said that the ransomware attack has not impacted its ability to serve customers.

The ransomware attack was carried out on Blue Yonder, one of the world’s largest supply chain software providers, and a major Starbucks vendor.

The attack is impacting Starbucks’ employee schedules and ability to track the hours they’ve worked. Starbucks says that it will ensure all employees are paid for the hours they work.

A ransomware attack involves malicious software that’s designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid.

The ransomware attack is the latest setback for Starbucks.

The company has struggled in recent years with a slowdown in sales, a consumer backlash, and a change to its chief executive officer.

News of the ransomware attack also comes as many Starbucks stores move to unionize their workforces.

The stock of Starbucks has risen 9% this year to trade at $101.84 U.S. per share.
