World Sports Photography Awards winners revealed – now pick your favourite picture

The sixth edition of the World Sports Photography Awards was the most competitive ever, with more than 2,200 photographers entering thousands of submissions from more than 96 countries. Telegraph Sport selects its favourites. Scroll down to vote for yours.

Athletics

Winfred Yavi delivered the goods in the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase to win gold at the Paris Olympics. Her win also put Daniel Sannum Lauten in the frame to land the photography award.

Boxing

Bryson DeChambeau won the second major of his career at Pinehurst in June last year following a dramatic late collapse from Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy. The American was, understandably, relieved.

Motorsport

A driver during the Safari Rally in Kenya appeared in no mood to slow down on the approach to zebras crossing. Thankfully, photographer Anton Anestiev opted for colour rather than black and white.

Olympics

Having clinched gold at the Olympics, Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina made some serious waves with a memorable celebration. “It’s not really a surf photograph so it captures the attention of more people,” said photographer Jérôme Brouillet after his picture went viral.

Rugby union

Played in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Pau, this Extenso Super sevens match at Stade du Hameau found itself drenched in rain. French photographer Romain Perrocheau captured the best rugby photograph of the year with this frame.

Having dominated on the clay of Roland-Garros where he won a record 14 titles during his career, it was fitting, perhaps, that Lionel Hahn’s photograph of Rafael Nadal leaving the court at the French Open in May was favoured by the judges.
