Spartans listed as consensus top 20 team in way-too-early rankings for next season

See where the Spartans land in the many different way-too-early top 25 rankings for next season

Michigan State basketball enters the offseason as a consensus top 20 team for the 2025-26 season.

A tradition like no other, the batch of way-too-early rankings for the 2025-26 season started dropping immediately after the final buzzer of the title game (some even before) and Michigan State was a commonality across the board. Well, except for 247Sports at least.

Heat Check CBB compiled the list of main media outlets that released their way-too-early rankings so far, and created a consensus list of where the top 25 teams landed. In that consensus list, Michigan State came in at No. 18 — which was the fourth-highest of any Big Ten team behind only Purdue (No. 3), Michigan (No. 8) and UCLA (No. 15).

Michigan State was as high as No. 5 in Sporting News’ rankings and as low as being unranked in 247Sports’ list. The Spartans were also fairly high in The Athletic’s rankings at No. 7.
