Chris Manhertz helped recruit Russell Wilson to the New York Giants

Before deciding to sign with the New York Giants, quarterback Russell Wilson reached out to one of his former teammates, tight end Chris Manhertz.

Wilson wanted to understand what the Giants were all about, and after one full season with the team, Mahertz had a solid understanding of the comings and goings.

“I kind of saw it happening,” Manhertz told the Denver Gazette. “I (texted with) him throughout the process.”

Wilson and Manhertz were Denver Broncos teammates in 2023 and developed a solid bond. Wilson specifically shouted out his buddy during his introductory press conference in East Rutherford.

“What really was exciting was the players, the guys,” Wilson said. “Guys I played with. Guys like Chris Manhertz.

“I’m not sure if he’s going to be running deep post routes or anything, but he’s a physical being I’ve played with. He’s been in the league, his professionalism, what he can do.”

After re-signing with the Giants himself, Manhertz encouraged Wilson to join him in New York.

“I was just telling him how things go over here and what we’re about and that it would be a good fit for him,” Manhertz said. “I guess everything counts in this process, right?

“It’s exciting. He’s a great teammate, a great quarterback. I think his resume speaks for itself. He’s a winner, and that’s definitely something that is important at the quarterback position in bringing a guy in. So, I’m excited all around.”

Manhertz believes Wilson will fit right in, and the Giants hope he’s right.
