City of Edinburgh Council is on the lookout for contractors to take on £600m worth of housing work.
The council is representing more than 130 local councils and organisations across Scotland in a search for contractors for a four-year housing framework.
The renewed New Build Housing Framework is split into four lots, broken down by the size of the individual projects. Lot 1.1 will cover projects to build up to 30 homes, while lot 1.2 is for projects of between 31 and 100 homes.
Lot 1.3 is for projects to build more than 100 homes, while lot two is for “collaborative residential construction” schemes.
City of Edinburgh Council said the framework represented an “efficient route to market for the design and construction of affordable, new-build housing across the city”, but that the work could also extend to other parts of Scotland.
The homes will all be constructed to net-zero carbon “as a minimum”, but the council said it was pushing to “innovate beyond this standard where real benefit can be provided for tenants”.
It added: “There is a strong desire to innovate in the design and construction of the new homes and to deliver sustainable communities through place-making.”
Contractors should expect both build-only and design-and-build contracts, while it is also expected that most of the work delivered will be affordable homes.
Other schemes such as care homes, nurseries, supported living accommodation and temporary accommodation could also be tendered out “in certain circumstances”.
Interested contractors can tender for this job here, with a deadline of 4pm on 9 January 2025. The council expects to announce the tender winners on 17 March 2025.
The framework comes days after a £100m framework to upgrade public buildings in Edinburgh went live.
