Instant recap: LSU women's basketball advances to Sweet 16 after dominant second half

LSU women’s basketball is headed to its third straight Sweet 16. A dominant second half propelled LSU to a win over Florida State in the second round. It was a high scoring affair with a final score of 101-71.

It was LSU’s second-straight game crossing the 100-point mark after the Tigers scored 103 in the first-round win over San Diego State.

Playing in a packed PMAC, LSU took advantage of the home crowd. Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey bought 2,000 student section tickets for LSU’s first and second-round games.

Three Tigers scored 20+ points, but sophomore guard Mikaylah Williams led the way with 28. Aneesah Morrow scored 26 while Sa’Myah Smith added 20. Smith was a perfect 9-9 from the field while bringing down 12 rebounds and notching three steals.

Flau’Jae Johnson scored 13 points and was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.

LSU’s offense was seamless. The Tigers shot 56.2% from the field and totaled 29 assists. LSU notched 52 points in the paint.

It’s hard to overstate how good LSU’s defense was in the second-half. The Noles offense is one of the best in the sport and the Tigers held FSU to 22 points across the third and fourth quarter.

LSU will face NC State in the Sweet 16. It’s a rematch as the two met earlier this season with LSU getting the win in November.
