Sony revealed more details about its upcoming game-to-screen adaptations, including reveals for new adaptations, at its CES 2025 show. Specifically, it revealed that Screen Gems, which is part of Sony Pictures, is making a film based on Helldivers 2; and its partnering with Crunchyroll to make an anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima. The company also revealed more details about its upcoming adaptations of Until Dawn and Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as the second season of Emmy-winning series, The Last of Us.
PlayStation Studios’ Asad Qizilbash and Screen Gems’ Ashley Brucks both revealed more details about the Helldivers 2 and Until Dawn adaptations. There’s little to reveal about the Helldivers film beyond the fact that it is currently in production, and will be a live-action film. The two also showed an announcement starring Peter Stormare, who appeared in Until Dawn and will also appear in the film adaptation. Stormare and Brucks both emphasized that the film is not a direct adaptation but pays homage to the games. That film releases on April 25.
Earlier in the show, Crunchyroll’s Rahul Purini took to the stage to discuss the service’s popular and upcoming anime, and also revealed that an anime adaptation of Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, called Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, is in the works. As the title implies, the series is based on the game’s Legends multiplayer mode and is made in collaboration with Aniplex. It’s scheduled to release sometime in 2027.
Qizilbash also made two final announcements: Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn is getting an adaptation after all — specifically, a film adaptation. The game was originally going to be adapted into a series for Netflix, but a report from Rolling Stone revealed it’s not moving forward as of last July. The other announcement was a release window for the upcoming second season of The Last of Us, along with a trailer showing off several prominent characters, including Abby. The new season launches in April.
