Two Toorak records among Victoria’s top sales in 2022

Two state records set in just a matter of days in August topped the list of Victoria’s most expensive home sales this year.

Marshall White Stonnington Director Marcus Chiminello sold both of the Toorak properties, which left other sales in their wake.

Still, there were plenty of luxurious features to enjoy, so let’s take a look.

This property made big headlines when it sold for a state record of $80,000,088 in an off-market deal in August.

The selling agent was Marcus Chiminello of Marshall White, who had approached the owner of the property multiple times in recent years as he had buyers for the home.

The eventual buyer was crypto king Ed Craven, who had made his fortune on a crypto gambling platform, and planned to demolished the unfinished mansion and build a new home.

Blair House, a landmark estate in Toorak, held the record as Victoria’s most expensive home for just a number of days before it was surpassed by a property just down the road.

Marcus Chiminello was also the selling agent for this Georgian Revival residence, which was designed in 1936 by architects Hughes and Orme.

Set on 7800sq m of oasis-like grounds, Blair House features included oak floors, timber panelling, Georgian windows and arches.

A grand reception room, gorgeous drawing room with a fireplace, an inviting sitting room and a garden room with north-facing views of the hedge-screened gardens outside were also on offer.

Upstairs are three double bedrooms with ensuites and robes, four other bedrooms, a fourth bathroom, two dressing rooms, a library, a study and a retreat.

Other features include separate two-three bedroom guest accommodation in converted double-storey stables and a lawn tennis court.

Built in 1868, ‘Namarong’ is an iconic Italianate Victorian mansion built for a shipping merchant that required a home of great stature.

While many original details remain, the home has also been substantially and expertly updated in a two-year works program in conjunction with design firm Kennedy Nolan.

The stunning home features formal living and dining rooms, a music room, and open-plan kitchen, family and meals area, theatre, games room and six bedrooms.

Outdoors is a pool, tennis enclosure, lush gardens and an alfresco dining area.

CoreLogic data and listing information/images from realestate.com.au was used to compile this list of some of the top-selling homes over the past 12 months. There may be more expensive sales with undisclosed prices that sold during the same time period.
