Prior to Game 5 in Minnesota on Wednesday, Steph Curry’s hamstring was re-evaluated. Although he was ruled out for Game 5 on Wednesday, Curry is making good progress on his injury, according to the Golden State Warriors’ update following the re-evaluation. Many reports indicated Curry could potentially return for Game 6 on Sunday. However, the Warriors had to get to Game 6 for Curry to even have a chance to return, starting with a win in Game 5 on Wednesday.
However, there won’t be a Game 6. The Warriors’ 2024-25 campaign came to an end on Wednesday night with a 121-110 loss to the Timberwolves in Game 5 at Target Center in Minnesota.
Through the first half, the Warriors and Timberwolves traded buckets, with Minnesota jumping out to a slight advantage. Late in the second quarter, the Timberwolves landed their first big punch. After the Warriors cut Minnesota’s lead down to just three points with under six minutes remaining in the first half, the Timberwolves went on a run.
Led by Julius Randle and MIke Conley, the Timberwolves exploded for a 17-5 run to open the game up before halftime. With a 15-point lead to start the second half, the Timberwolves never looked back, closing out the Warriors before Curry had the chance to return to the series.
With 7:11 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Warriors were able to cut the Timberwolves’ advantage down to nine points. Yet, a 3-pointer from Anthony Edwards and a Jaden McDaniels dunk off a turnover quickly pushed Minnesota back into the driver’s seat.
Randle capped off his impressive series with a game-high 29 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the field with eight boards and five assists. All five of Minnesota’s starters tallied double-figures in scoring, including Edwards with 22 points. Edwards also notched a playoff career-best 12 assists in Game 5 against the Warriors.
Brandin Podziemski notched his best game of the series with 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field with four 3-pointers to go along with six boards and four assists and two steals in 39 minutes for the Warriors.
Jonathan Kuminga added 26 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the floor with three boards and two steals in 32 minutes off the bench. With Curry sidelined, Kuminga tallied 23 or more points in three straight games.
Jimmy Butler was quiet again as a scorer in Game 5, scoring 17 points on 4-of-11 shooting. The veteran wing added six boards, six assists and three steals in 42 minutes.
The Warriors will now head into a crucial offseason after finishing the regular season with a 48-34 record and being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.
