I hate to break it to Jesse Watters, but no amount of time in jail is ever going to give his buddy Trump a “prison body.” On this Monday’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox, Watters brought on attorney Katie Cherkasky to discuss Judge Merchan finally threatening Trump with jail time if he continues to violate the gag order, and Trump’s whiny response outside of the courthouse, where he pretended he’d be happy to make a “sacrifice” and go to jail.
Here’s Watters once again helping Trump with his attacks on the jurors, and pretending that Trump would actually be getting some exercise other than golf– which seems to be the only physical activity he gets right now, when he’s not riding on a golf cart and has to walk a few steps to swing at a ball– if he were locked up:
WATTERS: This judge is really, really on the side of the prosecution, and apparently this thing’s going to go on for weeks. Trump’s complained about it. Today, it looks like he got fined a G for saying that the jury pool in Manhattan is 95 percent Democrat, which is the truth.
And then he says, you know what? If we have to defend the Constitution, I’ll make that sacrifice and go to jail. Watch.
TRUMP: I have to watch every word I tell you, people. You ask me a question, a simple question I’d like to give it, but I can’t talk about it because this judge has given me a gag order and said you’ll go to jail if you violate it.
And frankly, you know what? Our Constitution is much more important than jail. It’s not even close. I’ll do that sacrifice any day.
WATTERS: You think he’s going to get thrown in the clank?
CHERKASKY: Well, I think that the Democrats are in a very tough position now. They’re stuck between their dream of finally seeing Trump behind bars. And now the nightmare that he’s going to become some sort of civil rights martyr when he gets put in there. But it’s probably the most likely chance that they’ll see him behind bars based on the prosecution’s presentation so far.
So I don’t think Judge Merchan wants to do it because logistically it’s a nightmare. But the threats keep building. The order is so vague that it’s anyone’s guess whether Trump does violate it. That’s part of the significant problem here with the constitutionality of the order, is that essentially anything can be interpreted to be a violation of the order.
WATTERS: Would Secret Service go to jail with Trump?
CHERKASKY:Well I would hope so. I mean he was a world leader.
WATTERS: Move over. Move over. The former president has to take a cat nap.
CHERKASKY: I think for the sake of our national security we would want to have protection of somebody that has that many state secrets. I mean this is a former president we’re talking about. The practicality of this is preposterous. But again, Merchan keeps insisting that that’s the next step here.
WATTERS: Alright. He’s going to come out with a prison body. That’s what happens when you go to prison. You work out. That’s all there is to do. Katie, thank you.
The ruling was not “vague.” It was very specific as to what Trump is and isn’t allowed to do. And pretending the guy who was hoarding classified documents down at Mar-a-Lago is somehow a bigger security risk if he’s confined somewhere than he is if he resumes the presidency is something that’s apparently lost on Cherkasky.
I’m not sure how Watters could make a bigger clown of himself with his defense of Trump. It would be humorous if it weren’t so dangerous.
