Texas football outlasted Arizona State’s late comeback effort on Wednesday, advancing to the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Cotton Bowl.
The No. 5 Longhorns defeated No. 4 Arizona State 39-31 in double overtime at the Peach Bowl on Wednesday. However, it came after they held a 17-3 halftime lead, allowing 16 unanswered points in the second half to send the game to the OT period.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers completed 20 of 30 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns to one interception, including two overtime scores. The Longhorns were able to fend off a valiant effort by Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo, who took 30 rushes for 143 yards (4.8) yards per carry for two touchdowns. He also threw a 42-yard touchdown and caught eight passes for 99 yards.

Who will Texas play in CFP semifinals?
The Longhorns will advance to the CFP Cotton Bowl semifinal on Friday, Jan. 10.
Texas will play the winner of No. 8 Ohio State and No. 1 Oregon, who play on Wednesday afternoon in the CFP Rose Bowl quarterfinal. Oregon received a first-round bye after going undefeated and winning the Big Ten championship game, whereas Ohio State dominated Tennessee 42-17 in the first round.
